Biography:

Antoni Kurzawa (1842-1898), born in Tura, son of Franciszka Kurzawa, sculptor, creating mainly religious, mythological and symbolic works.

He was educated in Krakow, Vienna and Paris. His work was characterised by expression and drama. He is the author of, among others, the composition 'Mickiewicz awakening the genius of poetry' and many gravestone monuments in the Łyczakowski Cemetery. A tragic figure, underestimated during his lifetime - his fate became an inspiration for the literature of Young Poland. He died in an asylum in Kraków and was buried in Rakowicki Cemetery.
