Biography:

Antoni Henryk Radziwiłł (1775-1833), born in Vilnius, son of Michał Hieronim and Helena, née Przezdziecka, prince, politician and composer, governor of the Grand Duchy of Poznań. Associated with the Polish-Prussian orientation, he served as a general-libert in the Prussian army. He was a patron of the arts, supported culture and organised musical events. He maintained contacts with many prominent artists and composed the first music for Goethe's 'Faust'. In 1815 he was appointed prince-nominee of the Grand Duchy of Posen, but his influence on politics was quickly curtailed by pressure from the Berlin government. His conciliatory attitude failed to stop Germanisation, and the November Uprising forced him to resign.
