Architecture of Andrzej Frydecki beyond the contemporary borders of Poland

He won many prestigious awards, his designs clearly refreshed the architecture of Lviv. And although he learned at his alma mater to design in the Art Nouveau current, he rejected it and created on his own principles - after all, he was fascinated by other varieties of modernism. Andrzej Frydecki was an architect who had many professional successes to his credit, and the buildings created by his designs adorn the former capital of Galicia to this day.

Andrzej Frydecki (1903-1989) was a Polish architect born in Sosnowiec, who lived for many years in what is now Ukraine, where his first projects were created. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Lviv Polytechnic . In the early 1930s he began his academic career at the same university. Shortly afterwards, he became vice-president of the Association of Polish Architects .

The inter-war period saw two leading visions for architecture . One, more innovative approach assumed the construction of buildings in the modernist current , while the other (historicizing) focused on the pursuit of discovering national forms . Andrzej Frydecki definitely identified himself with the former assumption.

Living in the Galician capital, Frydecki created designs for many houses and objects of public use . The Dom PZUW (PZUW House ), erected in 1928, is worth mentioning, as well as the Dom Żołnierza Polskiego (Polish Soldiers' House ), a three-storey edifice designed by the architect, started in 1934 and completed many years later. Frydecki was also not afraid to work on projects of buildings focused on relaxation and rest - he developed, among others, a plan for the construction of a guesthouse in Morszyn .

After World War II Andrzej Frydecki was forced to leave Lviv . He then travelled to Czudec, then to Rzeszów and Katowice. He finally settled in Wrocław , where he continued to work as a lecturer. There he also developed a number of further great projects.
