The architecture of Wincenty Rawski (the younger) beyond the contemporary borders of the Republic of Poland

His oeuvre is a combination of excellent technical and manual skills and attention to coherence with the existing buildings of Lviv. Wincenty Jan Rawski is an artist who had building qualifications and artistic flair, and thus a very broad perspective on Galician architecture.

Wincenty Jan Rawski (1850-1927) is a Polish architect and builder whose work was mainly associated with Lviv. He was educated at the Technical Academy in that city, as well as at the Higher Technical School in Vienna . Later he also studied in Italy. He applied the experience he had accumulated through his education to his everyday work.

In 1876, Rawski obtained a licence to carry out construction work, at which time he founded his own company. His portfolio includes residential and industrial buildings , as well as public buildings. Among other projects, he realised the design of the National Seym building in Lviv, prepared by Juliusz Hochberger.

One of Rawski's greatest achievements was the creation of the building of the State Railway Directorate - the architect won a competition for his design. It should be added that he created many buildings in the historicist style , especially in the Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque styles - the best example of the latter aesthetic is his own villa , which was built in 1896. At the time, the building belonged to the Congregation of the Servite Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Rawski also created the design for the building of the Polish Polytechnic Society, which is located on Dudayev Street and maintained in the style of eclectic historicism. The architect's oeuvre also includes the Neo-Renaissance townhouses located on today's Franki Street, as well as the printing house on Liszta Street .
