Architectural and conservation study of St. Stanislaus Church in Szczerc

Information about the object:
St. Stanislaus Church in Szczerc was built in 1400. At first it was part of the town fortifications. In 1912 it was renovated (probably to Wojciech Brettner's design), among other things, the tower, destroyed in 1834, was rebuilt. In 1910 a plaque commemorating the Battle of Grunwald was placed on the tower with the inscription: "Grunwald Memorial 1410-1910". In 1934 a memorial plaque was placed above the church entrance to commemorate the five-hundredth anniversary of the death of Vladislav Yahaila with an inscription, "To King Vladislav Yahaila on the five-hundredth anniversary of his death the town of Shchyrets pays its respects on 31 May 1934". In1996 a plaque commemorating General Stanislaw Maczek was placed in the interior. Almost complete furnishings of the pre-1945 church have been preserved.

Completed works:
A basic architectural and conservation study of the church was carried out. An archive search was also carried out for the historic church in Szczerc.

Funding: Polonica Institute programme "Polish cultural heritage abroad - volunteering".
