Biography:

Balthasar Klossowski, known as Balthus (1908-2001), was a French painter, illustrator and stage designer with Polish-German-Jewish roots active in Germany, France and Switzerland. He belonged to the Polish noble family of the Kłossowski family of the Rola coat of arms. He gained a reputation for his paintings depicting young, defiant girls. He was the brother of the philosopher Pierre Klossowski.
