Biography:

Bohdan Kleczyński (1851/1852-1920), born in Dubno, son of Bronisław and Maria, née Makowiecka, painter associated with Ukraine, Poland and Germany. He initially studied economics in Heidelberg, but eventually devoted himself to painting, studying under Wojciech Gerson in Warsaw, Florence and at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. In Munich, he became associated with Józef Brandt's circle and created many works inspired by Polish nature, with a particular fondness for horse and hunting scenes. He participated in exhibitions in Warsaw, Krakow and Munich. After returning to Podolia, he took up horse breeding and settled permanently in Krakow after 1916. His work was partly lost during the First World War.
