Lech Walesa Boulevard in Nice

In Nice, not far from the Old Port, there is the Lech Walesa Boulevard. It was so named in the 1980s, even before Lech Walesa took office as President of Poland. Before that, the boulevard was called Boulevard Stalingradzki. The mayor of Nice at the time, appreciating Walesa's activities in Poland, decided to give the place a new name, thus commemorating his contribution to the fight for freedom and democracy.
