Cemetery lapidary in Kamyanets-Podilskyi

The cemetery lapidary was created in the courtyard in front of the cathedral and in the courtyard of the curia from tombstones or fragments of tombstones found in the surrounding cemeteries. Unfortunately, it is not known from which localities they were taken, but they are nevertheless valuable souvenirs and examples of sepulchral art that needed to be saved. They are mostly monuments erected on the graves of local nobility. Zbigniew Hauser draws particular attention to the gravestone of Jan Barszczewski, a trustee of the Chocim church who died in 1900. The pedestal topped by a column bears an elaborate rhymed inscription on four sides. An interesting form is represented by the tombstone of Eleonora Tuska, who died in 1893. The monument of light grey marble has the shape of a pedestal covered with a drapery on which an open book lies. The inscriptions are in two places, on the pedestal and on the pages of the book. Among the collected tombstones, there is also a tombstone, a 'Podolski' cross, a pedestal figure and epitaph plates.

Inside the cathedral there are numerous epitaph plates including two in Latin and inscriptions. They commemorate clergy, doctors and donors. The oldest plaques date to the mid-18th century.

In the right nave of the cathedral, there is a magnificent tombstone of Laura Prze¼dziecka, who died tragically at a young age in 1874 and was buried in her home town of Czarny Ostrów. She was commemorated with a sculpture in white marble by chisel Victor Brodzki depicting a sleeping young woman on a bed decorated with garlands of flowers, with an angel standing by her side. By the sarcophagus are two marble busts, which are effigies of the parents of the deceased. The monument was partially destroyed by the Soviets and removed from the chapel, but managed to be transported to the Kamenets Cathedral in 1938 http://https://lwow.info/laura-przezdziecka/ .
