General Anders Army Cemetery

The 5th Vilnius Infantry Division, part of the Polish Army in the USSR under the command of General Anders, was being formed in Tatishchev near Saratov in 1941. Several dozen soldiers died from exhaustion due to disease and the conditions of exile they had experienced earlier. They were buried in the Idolga village cemetery.

Their graves were not permanently marked, but the memory of the Polish soldiers' burials has been preserved among the local population. In 2018, a resident of Idolga, Anna Terjochina, pointed out a place in the cemetery where Polish soldiers were buried before her eyes. Unfortunately, there is no commemoration there; next to it is only a small Soviet memorial-grave of an unknown soldier.

On the other hand, in the neighbouring village of Sleptsovka, there is a local history museum with an exhibition dedicated to the stay of the Anders army in the Tatishchev camps.
