Municipal cemetery in Nizankowice

Located in the northern part of the town, the cemetery was probably established in the early second half of the 19th century, as can be deduced from the dates on the surviving gravestones. It is still active and quite carefully maintained. Some of the gravestones, however, are neglected and lack inscriptions. The spatial layout has partially survived.

According to Hauser, there are a few valuable tombstones in the cemetery, such as a magnificent but devastated tomb without inscription, topped by the figure of a recumbent knight, which, according to locals, may have belonged to the Ukrainian family of Lyńczak Bogaczuk. As far as old gravestones are concerned, stone monuments predominate: on the grave of the CK fiscal official and PP second lieutenant Jan Pietranowski (died 1903), the government and tenant of the estate Jan de Latour (died 1888) or the CK notary Ignacy Kriegseisen (died 1900).

Mention should also be made of the magnificent tomb of Władysław Demkowicz (died 1936), crowned by a stone monument with a crucifix, and the gravestone of Adolf de Medveczky (died 1904), a long-time postmaster, surrounded by a cast-iron fence.

The date 1929 is engraved on the cemetery wall.

Documentation (1 cemetery card) has been made for the cemetery (stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
