Church cemetery in Ostrog

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation (3 cards) has been made for the cemetery (stored in the ICDNS). Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).

Next to the parish church in Ostrog there was a cemetery where, in 1771, thanks to the efforts of the parish priest Jozef Jan Goluchowski, a chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected, with a cross vault on four pillars and a galvanised roof. In the crypt beneath this chapel, Bishop Franciszek Komornicki, who was parish priest in Ostrog in 1773-1780, was buried in 1870. Also buried in this cemetery next to the chapel were Bishop Stanislaw Franciszek Biegański (died 1709) and Father Jozef Ptaszynski (died 1938). This cemetery was decommissioned in the 1960s. In 1994-1995, the chapel was rebuilt and Bishop Komornicki was reburied. Komornicki. Behind the Capuchin monastery there was a Catholic cemetery until the 1960s, which was also liquidated. Nothing remains of it, and a sports stadium was built on the site.
