Cemetery in Akhremovce (also Belmot)

The cemetery was established in the first half of the 19th century and its oldest part is located in the centre of the foundation. The cemetery is located by the road south of the village, on a hill and is surrounded by a pine grove. The foundation is Catholic-Orthodox and there are mostly Polish grave monuments with Polish inscriptions, which are often no longer legible. Some of the crosses on the gravestone monuments are tied with coloured ribbons. The oldest preserved tombstone is that of Julia and Anna Solimani. The cemetery is rectangular in plan and covers an area of 0.7ha. The establishment is fenced on three sides (north, south and east). The fence surrounding it is made of brick. As noted by the authors of the study, "the chapel forms a whole with the cemetery wall decorated with ogival niches, with smaller chapels placed on its corners and an entrance gate and wickets". For a period, the chapel served as the main shrine in Belmot. The inscriptions on the gravestones to which the authors draw particular attention include, among others, an inscription, partly illegible from the grave of Wladyslaw Alfons Bortkiewicz: TU SPOCZYWAJA ZWLOKI / S. P. WLADYSEAW ALFONSA BORTKIEWICZ / CLERIC OF THE KKS FRANCISCAN CONGREGATION / VITEBSK R. 1862 MCA OKT. / 7 DAY. THE PARENTS WERE TOUCHED / WITH A PAINFUL LOSS BY THE DEATH OF THEIR BELOVED SON / WHO AFTER A TWO-YEAR LONG SERIOUS ILLNESS / WILL PASS INTO ETERNITY / ALTHOUGH IN A SHORT SPAN OF YEARS OF HIS LIFE / WHEN HE WAS ONLY 19 YEARS OLD / THEY BELIEVED HIM (...) A MORTAL WREATH //.

Documentation (9 sheets) and a plan (stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage) were produced for the cemetery. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
