Cemetery in Bartoszy

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography). According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak: "The Catholic cemetery in Bartoszy is located on the western edge of the village, (...) it is situated on a flat terrain, laid out on a rectangular plan without internal division into plots and alleys. It is fenced with a fence made of metal bars, (...) the whole occupies an area of 0.4 hectares." The cemetery is still active today, having been established in 1798, as indicated by a stone with the date of its establishment. It has the form of a granite boulder with a carved cross and the inscription "ANO / 1798 / PILS MANIBUS SACRUM" According to the authors mentioned above, "of the old burials, several gravestones from the 2nd half of the 19th century have survived. The oldest surviving gravestone of Antonina Sergey from 1881 in the form of a granite pedestal originally topped with an iron cross (...). Other gravestones from this period have a similar form. The older tombstones are located in the eastern part of the cemetery, difficult to access (...). The western part with only new burials is completely devoid of greenery. The state of preservation of the cemetery is good, with no traces of devastation." Noteworthy is the inscription: "Here rests Ś. P. ANTONINA SIERGIJ / LIVED 45 / UM. 13 AUGUST 1881."
