Cemetery in Chyriv

The Catholic cemetery in Chyrów was probably founded in the early 19th century (judging by the dates on the surviving tombstones). However, the fact that there is a Baroque chapel there postpones the date of foundation to the second half of the 18th century, making the cemetery in Chyrów one of the oldest in the area.

It is located in the northern part of the town, on a hill, to the right of the road to Dobromil. It is well maintained and still active.

In addition to the Baroque chapel mentioned earlier, there is a second chapel - open on three sides with arcades and topped with a sculpture depicting the Pieta and the Latin inscription "Deo antem gratias qui dedit nobis victoriam / Per Dum Nostrum Iesum XPM".

According to Zbigniew Hauser, the cemetery contains many antique gravestones such as 'a sump with an overlapping cross on the grave of Marceli Sulima Popiel (d. 1901)[...]', 'an obelisk of grey marble on the grave of Domicela Topolnicka (d. 1891)[...]' or 'a rock topped by a sculpture of a weeping woman leaning against a cross on the grave of Mary of Chmielewska H[...]adzka (d. 1904)[...]'.
