Cemetery in Girach

There are two active Catholic cemeteries in the village of Giry. Both are located about 100 m south of the edge of the village, separated by a dirt road. Both cemeteries are rectangular in plan, have the same dimensions (0.55 ha), lie on the same (flat) ground, are surrounded by agricultural fields and a stone fence.
The western cemetery, created around the middle of the 19th century, has no division into alleys and plots and the graves are distributed freely throughout the cemetery. Next to the gate is the wooden cemetery chapel. It is rectangular in plan, with a three-sided closed apse and a four-post portico at the front. The oldest gravestone, located about 5 m from the cemetery chapel, belongs to Adasio Korwin-Kurkowski and is from 1875. It is in the form of a rectangular granite vertical slab, ending in an arch. The inscription on the monument remains: / THE LATE / ADAŚ/ KORWIN-KURKOWSKI/ UM. ON 17 MARCH/ 1875/ LIVED 11/.
The eastern cemetery was established at the beginning of the 20th century. It contains tombstones mainly from the first half of the 20th century with Lithuanian inscriptions.
Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
