Cemetery in Horodija

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak: "The Catholic cemetery, active, is located in the central part of the village, surrounded by local dirt roads. (...) It covers an area of 1.1 ha. It was established on a rectangular plan, with a path running from the gate on the axis of the cemetery and dividing it into two parts. Several tombstones from the second half of the 19th century in the form of slabs and granite pedestals with crosses have survived. The whole establishment is dominated by gravestones from the 1st half of the 20th century and contemporary ones. (...) The names recur in the inscriptions: Kozioł, Dominikowski, Hryniewicz, Daszkiewicz. The tree stand is scattered throughout the cemetery - birches, lindens, maples." The oldest gravestone, dating from 1853, commemorates Maria née Ćwirk Dominikowska. The inscription reads: "MARJA / Z ĆWIRKÓW / DOMIENIKOWSKA / LIVED 62 / UM. 25 APRIL 1853 / PEACE TO HER SOUL". According to the mentioned researchers, in the cemetery there is located "a quarter of Polish soldiers killed in the war of 1920. It consists of 51 earthen graves with concrete, vertically placed crosses. At a distance of 20 m to the south of the quarters there are four individual soldiers' graves from the same period."
