Cemetery in Januszki

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, "the disused Catholic cemetery of a former nobleman's homestead is located 200 m south-east of the village of Januszki, by a dirt road, on the edge of a pine forest. The cemetery is located on land rising in a southerly direction. It is surrounded by fields to the north and east. The boundaries and plan of the cemetery are completely illegible, only remnants of an erratic stone fence remain on the eastern side. Burials are scattered irregularly on the slope of the hill, the oldest on its culmination. The cemetery was most probably established in 1843, as evidenced by the preserved foundation stone with this date on top of the hill. (...) Due to the dense forest cover, the cemetery area is difficult to access. In the northern part there are traces of a transzeji and trenches, remains probably from the First World War. Growing greenery will lead to the natural disappearance of the cemetery." According to the aforementioned authors, seven tombstones from the years 1883-1908 remain in the cemetery, the oldest one belonging to Antoni Zmaczyński. The granite boulder bears the following inscription: 'Ś. P. ANTONI ZMACZYŃSKI / LIVED FOR 39 YEARS / DIED. 3 MARCH / 1883".
