Cemetery in Komarno

Situated in the western part of the town, the Catholic cemetery was probably established in the first half of the 19th century, judging from the dates on the surviving tombstones. One of the oldest is that belonging to Teresa of Czerwonka Androszosk (?) (d. 1842) decorated with an acroterion and a tall stone obelisk, with coats of arms.

The state of preservation of the cemetery is described by Hauser as not bad. It gives the impression of being out of use. As a typical rural cemetery, it is characterised by tombstones growing directly out of the turf and a lack of traces of spatial planning.

The cemetery gate in the form of two neo-Gothic pylons with blind arches topped with stone vases has survived. Also surviving (which Hauser considers to be a miracle) is the monument to the seven Legionaries who died between 1914 and 1916 on the Austro-Russian front, in the form of a magnificent obelisk topped by a metal Legionary eagle.

The author of the study also draws attention to the gravestone of Romuald Young (d. 1886), decorated with panoplies and the Polish Eagle, in the form of an obelisk, or that of Marcianna Obmińska (d. 1881), in the neo-Gothic style.
