Cemetery in Lebedev

Cemetery in Lebedev

The active Catholic cemetery, established in the second half of the 19th century, is located on the western edge of the village. The cemetery has a rectangular ground plan and is situated on a slight hill. It occupies an area of 0.9 ha and is fenced with a metal fence. A path on an axis runs through the cemetery, dividing the establishment into two parts of different sizes. In the central part of the assemblage is a neo-Gothic brick cemetery chapel. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century on a rectangular plan, with a triangular closed apse. The oldest preserved tombstone, located in the northern part of the cemetery, belongs to Henryk Michałowski and was created in 1893. It has the form of a granite boulder, worked into rocks, topped with a cast iron cross. The inscription has been preserved: / HENRYK MICHAŁOWSKI/ LIVED 75 YEARS/ + 30 MAY 1893/ ASKS FOR ANGELIC GREETING/ MEMORY OF CHILDREN/. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
