Cemetery in Lipniszki

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation has been produced for the cemetery (stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, the church cemetery is located in the north-western part of Lipniszki. At present, there are seven tombstones from the 1st half of the 20th century. The oldest, from 1906, commemorates Stanislaw Wolski. The inscription reads: "STANISŁAW WOLSKI / UR. 7 APRIL 1828 / D. 1 JANUARY 1906 / ETERNAL REST DEIGN TO GIVE HIM LORD". Also noteworthy are the following two inscriptions: "Ś. P. JAN AMBROŻEWICZ / LIVED 28 / INJURED IN WAR DIED IN AUGUST 1919 / HIS DEAD / FROM MAŚLIKOWCÓW" and "Ś. P. ROMANOWSKA MICHAINA / LIVED 56 YEARS / DIED / FROM AN AERIAL BOMB IN 1941". The cemetery is maintained in good condition.

Following the cited authors, the active Catholic cemetery is located 1 km from the church. It has a rectangular plan, 1.1 hectares in area and is enclosed by a stone wall. Opposite the entrance is a wooden chapel. It was established in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The oldest gravestone, dating from 1872, is on the grave of Agata of Jusiewicz Iżycka. Its inscription reads: "D. O. M. HERE LIE THE REMAINS OF THE LATE AGATA Z JUSIEWICZÓW IŻYCKIEJ / DECEASED APRIL 12 D. 1872 R. / AT THE AGE OF 65 / THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY THE FAMILY / ASKING FOR 3 HAIL MARY'S". Lewkowski and Walczak, write that "during clean-up work at the cemetery, several dozen late 19th and early 20th century tombstones were set into the cemetery fence, near the entrance. In addition, tombstones from this period lined the approach to the chapel, causing the inscriptions to wear away quickly. Some of the slabs have been treated as paving slabs and are laid face down." The cemetery is maintained in good condition.
