Cemetery in Milkawiczy

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, the cemetery has a rectangular plan, surrounded by a wooden and stone fence, with an area of 0.4 ha. A new part with contemporary tombstones is adjacent to the west. It has an area of 0.1 ha. The older part was created at the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, local noblemen were buried there. Following the cited researchers: "There are several dozen gravestones preserved in the cemetery, mostly from the 2nd half of the 19th century." The oldest, from 1832, crowns the burial place of Franciszka Lityńska. It takes the form of a horizontally placed, bisected granite boulder. The inscription reads: "Here rests / the corpse of the late P. / FRANCISZKA / LITYŃSKIEY LIVED / LAT 63 PROSI O / 3 ZDROWAŚ / MARYA R. 1832". In the cemetery, a church was built in the centre around 1830. As Lewkowski and Walczak write, "The cemetery in Milkiewiczy is an example of a rare and quite well-preserved cemetery of the noble area."
