Cemetery in Olżew Maly

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, "one of the few existing cemeteries from the period of the January Uprising has been preserved near the village of Olżew Mały. (...) On an area of about 170 m² with a shape close to an oval, there are several scattered granite boulders, on one of which an inscription is carved: "Ś. P. = B. 1863". In the centre of the oval field stand three tall wooden crosses - two Catholic and one Unitarian. On the first one on the right, dating from before 1939, an inscription is carved: "TO THE FALLEN ON THE FIELD OF GLORY PARTICIPANTS IN THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM". The two other crosses - a Catholic and a Uniate - are new, having been placed in 1995: "ZMAGARAM ZA NIEZALEZNAŚĆ 1863-1995", on the Catholic one in Polish: "TO FIGHTERS OF INDEPENDENCE 1863-1995". (...) The cemetery was cleaned up in 1995, its state of preservation is good."
