Cemetery in Pochaiv

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).

The municipal cemetery in Pochaiv lies about half a kilometre east of the Pochaiv Lavra. It is a necropolis that is still active, very well maintained, with the vast majority of tombstones Ukrainian. Zbigniew Hauser managed to find only a few tombstones with Polish inscriptions: on a Podol cross, on a tombstone and three on simple stone tombstones. On two tombstones the dates of death can be read - 1931 and 1932. There may have been more tombstones, nevertheless one has to take into account that there were few Poles living in the decidedly Orthodox Pochaiv. They may also have been destroyed on purpose.
