Cemetery in Starzynki

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, the active Catholic cemetery is located on the southern edge of Starzynek. To quote, "the whole complex consists of two cemeteries, the old one, established in the 2nd half of the 19th century, and the new, contemporary one, adjacent to the old one on the south-eastern side. The old cemetery is surrounded by a stone wall and covers an area of 1.5 hectares. The new one is fenced with a wooden fence and covers an area of 0.7 ha. The entrance to the cemeteries is on the west side. The old cemetery has a roughly rectangular plan, with a sloping north-western side (...). A few gravestones from the second half of the 19th century have been preserved in the cemetery; gravestones from the first half of the 20th century predominate." The oldest, from 1878, has the form of a granite boulder with a cast iron crucifix and an inscription: "ANTONI POPŁAWSKI / LIVED 22 YEARS / DIED. TRAGICALLY / 25 VIII 1944 / PEACE TO HIS SOUL / HONOUR YOUR MEMORY / DEAR SON". According to the aforementioned authors, "in the cemetery there are graves of Home Army soldiers that are difficult to locate. These graves are commemorated by the Cross of the Guard of Polish Graves erected several years ago in the central part of the cemetery." In some places the cemetery is overgrown with bushes, making access significantly difficult.
