Cemetery in Stepan

In the village of Stepań, the cemetery has not survived. However, Zbigniew Hauser reports that local people were able to point out a place called "Polish graves". There used to be a Polish cemetery there, where, among other things, the inhabitants of the village of Huta Stepańska, murdered by Ukrainian nationalists, were probably buried.

An interesting site, but at a distance from the cemetery, is the ruin of the Worcells' mausoleum - a stone barrow. For years there was no inscription on it, but in 2011 there was already a plaque on it with an inscription in Polish and Ukrainian that it was the tomb of the Worcell family from the mid-19th century. The website http:// http://isakowicz.pl/szlakiem-wolynskich-krzyzy-stepan-cmentarz-worcellow/ states that there were two Polish cemeteries in the village. One by the church, the other stretched behind the Worcell mausoleum. It was a large cemetery and was closed in the 1930s because there was no more space for burials. Its devastation began after the war - the cemetery area was used for industrial and residential buildings. Today, there are still remnants of tombstones in the area.
