Cemetery in Tuhanovichi

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, Tuchanowicze was an important place for Poles, as Adam Mieckiewicz often stayed in the local manor house of Michal Wereszczak. Until the First World War, mementoes of him were kept here, and the place was visited by Konopnicka, Orzeszkowa and Chełmoński, among others. In the garden around the manor house there was a chapel with the family graves of the owners. In 1915, all the manor house buildings were destroyed during warfare. According to the aforementioned authors, "in 1931 the Tuhanovichi park was taken under protection and became a tourist attraction. Today, the park in Tukhanovichi is owned by the kolkhoz in Karchova and is one of the best maintained romantic parks in Belarus." One gravestone with the inscription survives to our days: "STEFAN / LESMAN / LIVED FOR YEARS (...) / UM. 15 LIS. / 1860".
