Cemetery in Turzec

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, "the former Jewish cemetery is located on the southern edge of the village on the eastern side of the local road. It is situated on a hill running eastwards. The boundaries of the cemetery are difficult to determine. In an area of about 2 hectares, overgrown with grass, there are several dozens of tombstones and matzevot from the 19th century and early 20th century. To the north, modern economic buildings have entered the cemetery. There are tombstones next to the buildings. On the south-eastern side there is a square-shaped area of 400 m² fenced off with a wooden fence. A monument in the form of a vertical slab on a plinth is set in the middle. The site is the mass grave of 403 inhabitants of the village of Turzec, executed by the Nazis during the Second World War." The inscription from the slab reads: "ZDJES / POHORONIENY / 403 CZIE£. / MIRNYH / ZITIELJEJ / DIER. TURIEC / RASTRIELJANYCH / GERMAN / FASCISTKIMI / ZAHWATCZIKAMI / W GODY WIELIKOJ / OTIECZESTWIENNOJ / WOJNY".
