Cemetery in Žvěc

The Catholic cemetery in Zhvaniac is about 4 km from the centre and lies on the left throne of the road to the village of Braha. It has an area of approximately 2 hectares. The brick cemetery gate has been preserved. According to a publication by Zbigniew Hauser, it is an active cemetery and is not badly preserved, although there are some broken and overturned monuments in the Polish part of the cemetery, which lies further back. The oldest gravestone has an inscription from 1860. In the cemetery, the author found 25 tombstones and a cemetery chapel - the tomb of the Żebrowski family of Jasieńczyk coat of arms. It is a neo-Gothic building decorated with a plaque with a coat of arms, a rosette and a frieze of pointed arcades above the entrance, surrounded by buttresses. The cemetery contains several gravestones in neo-Gothic style, most topped with a cross, but also a knotted stone cross and an iron gravestone decorated with columns, a bas-relief vase with ribbon and branches and floral garlands.

The cemetery was cleaned up as part of the Studio East campaign. There may have been another Polish cemetery here, which was destroyed and the gravestones scattered. Some of them were found and would eventually end up in the Kamieniec lapidary https://www.studiowschod.pl/miejscowosci/zwaniec/ .

Cemetery with Polish gravestones. Documentation was made for the cemetery (72 tombstone cards) stored in the ICDNS. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
