During the Second World War, Poles, among others, were forcibly resettled here after being deported from their homes by the NKVD. Many of the deportees died as a result of gruelling labour, starvation and the cold. The deceased were buried in the local cemetery, which has survived to the present day. Around 10 Polish graves can be found there.

In 2015, the cemetery was visited by the parish priest from Bijsk, Fr A. Obuchowski, and volunteers from the FREYA Foundation in Wrocław. At that time, a small monument was erected in the cemetery in honour of the Poles buried there. The inscription in Polish reads: “Here lie Poles – exiles to the Altai region in the 1940s. Honour to their memory!!!” An image of Our Lady of Ostra Brama has been placed beneath the inscription.
