Biography:

Dora Holzhandler (1928-2015), painter, born in Paris to a family of Polish Jews. She lived in London from the age of six. She worked in a naïve style, drawing inspiration from the work of Chagall and Matisse, among others. Her paintings, steeped in religious and mystical symbolism, reflect the artist's personal beliefs, combining Judaism with Buddhism. Discovered by Victor Pasmore, she made her debut with an exhibition in 1954. Her work is in the collections of the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art and the Jewish Museum in London, among others.
