Biography:

Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), born in Warsaw, son of Filip and Hannaha Nadelman, was an outstanding sculptor and draughtsman. He graduated from the gymnasium and lyceum in Warsaw, after which he went to study in Munich in 1904. He soon moved to Paris, where he began his studies at the Académie Colarossi. It was there that his talent was recognised by art collectors such as the brothers Tadeusz and Alexander Natanson. In Paris, Nadelman also developed a friendship with Gertrude Stein, who was keen to buy his works. The artist settled in Montparnassie, a lively colony of Polish artists. In 1909, his first solo exhibition took place at the Galerie Druet in Paris. In the same year, Nadelman's manifesto was published in the famous magazine Camera Work. In 1914, the artist emigrated to the United States. His works can be found in numerous prestigious institutions and private collections.
