Biography:

Eugeniusz Wierzbicki (1909-1991), born in Khanzhenkov, architect. He studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology, where he graduated in 1936. At the same time, together with his fellow students Jerzy Mokrzyński and Eugeniusz Wierzbicki, he founded the "Tigers" group. Together they completed many important projects, such as the Party House in Warsaw and the Railway Station in Katowice. Between 1936 and 1939, Wierzbicki ran his own architectural studio in parallel. He took part in the 1939 Defence War, after which he was sent to prisoner-of-war camps: Oflag II B Arnswalde and Oflag II D Gross Born. While in captivity, he actively participated in cultural life - he organised the Theatre of Symbols, collaborated with the editorial board of the camp magazine and gave lectures on architecture. After the war, he worked at the Office for the Reconstruction of the Capital, getting involved in the reconstruction of destroyed Warsaw. He became famous as a modernist architect, leaving a lasting mark on post-war Polish architecture.
