Biography:

Ewelina Konstancja Wiktoria née Rzewuska Hańska (06.01.1804 or 1805-1882), born in Pohrebyszcz, noblewoman. She received a thorough education at home. In 1819, as part of an arranged marriage, she married Wacław Hański, owner of an estate in Wierzchownia. Of their five children, only daughter Anna survived. In 1832, she began a correspondence with Honorius Balzac, which in time developed into a deep friendship and then into romance and marriage. After the death of Wenceslas Hanski, Evelina and Balzac travelled around Europe. From 1848, the writer often stayed in Wierzchownia, where he created many of his works. The couple married in 1850, but Balzac died shortly afterwards. After his death, Hanska settled in Paris, where she spent the rest of her life.
