Biography:

Feliks "Papa" Stamm (1901-1976), born in Kościan, son of Augustyn, boxing coach, referee, fighter and non-commissioned officer in the Polish Army of the Second Republic. In the 1920s, he was a competitor of the Pentatlon Poznań club, and an instructor at the Central Military School of Gymnastics and Sports in Poznań. In 1936 he became the coach of the Polish boxing national team, which he led until 1968, participating in seven Olympic Games and fourteen European Championships. During his career he raised many Olympic, world and European champions, including Jerzy Kulej, Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, Marian Kasprzyk and Mieczysław Forlański. After World War II, he settled in Bydgoszcz, where he worked for the Polish Boxing Association and ran the Astoria Bydgoszcz team. He was buried in the Powązki Wojskowe cemetery in Warsaw. Streets in several cities in Poland are named after him, and the annual Feliks Stamm International Boxing Tournament has been held since 1977. In 2000, his Star was unveiled in the Avenue of Sports Stars in Władysławowo, and in 2014. Polish Post issued a stamp with his image.
