Jan Maria Bernardoni, Italian: Giovanni Maria Bernardoni (c. 1541-1605), born in Cagno, a Polish architect of Italian origin. He worked as a bricklayer until the age of 23, after which he went to Rome to join the Jesuit Order and become an architect. The Order put him to work on the construction of the main Jesuit church in Rome, where he worked for six years. Starting in 1573, Bernardoni worked on the construction of churches in Milan, Florence, Naples and Abruzzo. In 1583, by order of the superior of the Jesuit order, John Maria Bernardoni was sent to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. His first stop was Lublin, where he worked for three years on projects for the University of Lublin and churches in Poznan and Kalisz. In addition, he took charge of the reconstruction of the Brigidine Monastery in Gdansk after a fire. In 1586, he arrived in Nesvizh, where he carried out his projects for 13 years. In 1599, he went to Kraków to supervise the construction of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and to complete work on the Bernardine Monastery in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and the Church of St Casimir in Vilnius.
