In the Catholic cemetery in Chortkiv there is a religious section of the Dominican priests. Eight priests and monks murdered by the Soviets, who, retreating from the city after the outbreak of the German-Soviet war, still wanted to eliminate as many enemies of the communist system as possible, are buried in this cemetery. On the night of 1 to 2 July 1941, NKVD officers abducted four monks from the monastery and killed them on the Seret river, and murdered the other four in the monastery. To cover their tracks, the monastery buildings were set on fire. The priests murdered in the monastery were buried in the Dominican tomb in the cemetery on 6 July 1941, while the priests killed by the river were buried at the place of execution, as the authorities did not agree to their bodies being placed in the monastic tomb in the cemetery. It was not until 1991 that permission was obtained to exhume the grave on the Seret and move the remains of the victims to the monastic tomb in the cemetery. A memorial plaque made of black marble in honour of the murdered monks is located on the façade of the Dominican tomb. The inscription reads: "Fathers and brothers murdered on 2.VII.1941 / murdered in the monastery / Fr. Hieronim Longawa age 69 / Br. Reginald Czerwonka aged 84 / Br. Method of Ivanishchev aged 31 / Jozef Wincentowicz, Tertiary aged 71 / murdered at the river Seret / Fr Justyn Spyrłak, Prior aged 46 / Fr Jacek Misiuta, parish priest aged 32 / Fr Anatol Znamirowski aged 31 / Br. Andrzej Bojakowski aged 44 / SALVE REGINA".
