In 1939-1941 (mainly in 1940), bodies of people executed in NKVD prisons in Stanislawow, Jaremcze and Nadwórna were brought by truck to the forest near the village of Pasieczna. Some sources say that executions also took place in Pasieczna itself. Most of those murdered were Poles, but there were also Ukrainians among the victims. The most numerous group of the repressed was the intelligentsia of Stanislawów: lawyers, teachers, doctors.

In 1989, the Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor's office began investigating the case. In 1990, some of the victims from the Pasieczna forest were exhumed and buried on 17 November that year in Demianovy Yar (Demianov Laz) on the outskirts of Stanislavov. The site has been fenced off and there are five large rectangular mass graves, on each of which stands a tall metal cross with a crown of thorns. Between the graves is a small vertical slab with a Ukrainian inscription, indicating where the central monument will stand. The inscription states: "A monument to the victims of repression 1939-1941 will be drawn up in this place".

In front of the entrance to the fenced area, two information boards have been set up with a description of the crime and the established names of the victims (all the text is in Ukrainian only, with the established names of the victims not indicating their nationality). In the immediate vicinity of the graves, outside the fence, a small towering Orthodox church has been erected with an inscription on the front reading "Memorial to the victims of communist repression"; in the basement of the church a memorial museum for the victims has been set up.
