The village of Mohylno was predominantly Ukrainian, there were about 150 Poles and dozens of Jews also lived there. In 1943, after the deportations to work in Germany, there were about 120 Poles living in the village.

On the night of 29-30 August 1943, numerous Ukrainian militias carried out a pogrom against the Poles in the village. Sixty-nine people were killed that night, all Polish homesteads were looted and some were burnt down. There were only a few survivors from the pogrom, including some wounded.

The victims were buried in death pits at the murder sites, some corpses were buried outside the village area. ca. 2001 r. The Association for the Commemoration of Poles Murdered in Volhynia erected a tall metal cross with a plaque in Mohylno. The inscription reads: "To the 69 Poles / residents of Mohylno who / died in 1943 / To the eternal memory / Compatriots".

In 2008 and 2011, members of the Association carried out repair and renovation work on this commemoration.
