Grave of a World War II victim

One of the many civilian victims of World War II was a resident of Burni, Jan Sterynowicz, who was murdered by the Germans in the autumn of 1941 in Turmonts. He was buried in the cemetery in Tylża. The grave features a tombstone in the shape of a tree trunk, topped with a cross. Under the cross is a plaque with a photograph of the deceased and the inscription: "Jan / Sterynowicz / lived 35 years / died a tragic death / d. 10 IX 1941 / this memento is dedicated / by his wife".
