Grave of Polish servicemen and policemen shot in September 1939.

After the outbreak of the Second World War, when the Soviets entered Sasów, in the local school the NKVD interned about 1000 Polish soldiers and policemen who had marched through Sasów towards Złoczów on 17.09.1939.

On the night of 17/18 September 1939. NKVD executed 24 of them. Their bodies were deposited in the basement of the town hall, connected to the school mentioned above. The local parish priest obtained permission from the Soviets for the burial. All the dead were buried in a common grave in the cemetery. Their personalities were established on the basis of the documents they had with them. Unfortunately, the witness to these events, who drew up the list of the dead, was murdered by the Soviets in June 1941 and probably did not pass the list on to anyone. At present, therefore, the names of those buried are unknown.

For many years the grave was abandoned and neglected, it was not until 17.09.1999 that a tall wooden cross was erected on it. In 2024 the commemoration was completed - a plaque with the inscription was placed at the foot of the cross: "Ś.P. / in this place rest / the officers of the Polish State Police / murdered by the NKVD / 18.09.1939 / in the building of the local town hall // God save their souls". The restoration work was carried out by the Association "Volyn Motorcycle Rally". On 19.09.2024 an arranged grave was consecrated.
