A soldier of the 1st Armoured Division sapper Stanislaw Karaban, serving under the alias Makowski, who died of wounds on 19.04.1945, is buried in the Catholic cemetery in Lathen.

The grave is located in the central part of the cemetery and is marked by an unformed black granite plaque. The inscription contains an engraved badge of the 1st DP, military rank, name, alias, dates of birth and death, military branch.
