Tomb of a Home Army soldier

Konstanty Szlachtowicz, a liaison officer of the 6th Wileńska Brigade of the Home Army, was carrying weapons in a cart on 13 or 14 May 1944. He was caught by the Germans in Windziuny and martyred near Miedniki. After 2 weeks, he was buried in one of the cemeteries in Shumsk - the one closest to the local Hill of Three Crosses. Konstanty rested in a grave field that also contains the grave of his namesake (who also died in 1944) and Helena Śliwowska (probably his relative). His grave is a simple concrete soldier's cross with the inscription: "Ś.P. / żołn. AK / 6th br. / Konstanty / Szlachtowicz / died 4 VII / 1944 / aged 20". This gravestone was made by Mr Matusewicz at the request of Konstanty's sister, Maria Szlachtowicz.
