Tomb of a Home Army soldier in the Nowa Rossa cemetery

Jadwiga Dudziec came from Jawor near Ostrołęka, she was a graduate of Stefan Batory University, a scout (she had the rank of assistant scoutmaster and was active in the 'Black Thirteen' troop), a teacher and a Catholic activist. During World War II she actively fought in the ranks of the Home Army and helped the Jews of Vilnius. She died in July 1944 in Vilnius as a result of a gunshot wound during an armed action during Operation Ostra Brama. She was buried in the New Rossa Cemetery in Vilnius, her grave is located in sector 10. For many years the site was forgotten and neglected. The restoration of the almost non-existent grave of Jadwiga Dudziec at Nova Rossa was initiated by Jerzy Surwiło, a historian of Vilnius. The restoration of the grave was financed by the Consular Section of the Polish Embassy in Vilnius. A delegation of the Jewish Community in Vilnius attended the consecration ceremony of the renovated grave on 25.10.2016. The inscription on the grave reads: "The late / Jadwiga Dudziec / soldier of the Home Army / Righteous Among the Nations / perished 1944 in Vilnius / Polish Consulate in Vilnius / Radio "Znad Wilii"/.
In 1999 Jadwiga Dudziec was posthumously awarded the medal "Righteous Among the Nations".
