Grave of a Polish Army soldier killed in September 1939.

Jerzy Zawadzki, a graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology, working as a water engineer in Polesia, volunteered for the Polish Army at the start of the Second World War. He was killed near the village of Komaruńce near Oran in September 1939, when Polish troops were retreating from Vilnius.
He was buried in the cemetery of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Vilnius (Sunny Cemetery), in the tomb of the Zawadzki family, located in sector 9. The inscription in his honour is located on a marble plaque on the tomb decorated with the figure of an angel and reads: "[...] / Jerzy / Zawadzki / died 18 September 1939".
