Grave of Home Army soldiers killed near Kravchuny-Novosiolki, partially exhumed

After the battle on 13 July 1944 between the soldiers of the Vilnius Region of the Home Army and a group of German troops led by General R. Stahel near Kravchūnai, the fallen and killed soldiers of the Vilnius Region of the Home Army were buried in a clearing in the Calvary forest. Soon all inscriptions commemorating these dead were destroyed and the local communist authorities considered them "bandits". After an unsuccessful attempt to liquidate this grave and remove the remains, some of them, thanks to the efforts of the family of one of the fallen, were buried in the cemetery after an exhumation carried out around 1980. The others are still buried in their original place and, thanks to the efforts of the Union of Poles in Lithuania, an iron cross with a plaque commemorating the fallen was placed on their grave. At the end of 1990, a memorial was added - a granite plaque with a detailed description of the events. The plaque was soon broken by vandals, but the Polish community reassembled it. The inscription on the central slab reads: "God Honour Fatherland. Here lie 32 soldiers of the Vilnius District who died on 13 July 1944 in the battle with the Nazis at Kravchunai. Honour their memory. In tribute - Vilnius Region". The inscription on the plaque on the right side: "Wacław Iwanowski "Wiatr" 1 BR / Marian Kończa "Głaz" 1 BR / Jan Kukuć "Trok" 1 BR / Langer "Nightingale" 1 BR / Piotr Podoba "Grusza" 1 BR / Daniel Tryńczak "Dziarski" 1 BR / "Tank" 1 BR / "Janek" 1 BR / "Mole" 1 BR / "Bush" 1 BR / "Cuckoo" 1 BR / "Wind" 1 BR / "Witek" 1 BR / "Wildcat" 1 BR / Zdzisław Łopatko "Lok" 4 BR" Inscription on the plate to the right: ""Aryman" 4 BR / "Twardy" 4 BR / "Apolonok" 4 BR / Jerzy Chomicki 23 BR / Władysław Krzak "Sęp" 23 BR / Jerzy Nessler 23 BR / Czesław Sidowicz "Juno" 23 BR / Piotr Spogis "Robert" 23 BR / Witold Szylin "Ryś" 23 BR / Roman Tomaszewski 23 BR / Jan Trejpsza 23 BR / Tadeusz Wojtecki "Kot" 23 BR / Jerzy Szarecki "Żuk" 36 BR / Kazimierz Bublewicz / Jan Czarniecki".
