In July 1920, General Franciszek Krajowski's group, part of the Polish Army's 6th Army, fought against Semyon Budyonny's mounted army, defending the front on the Ivka River between Krzemieniec and Dubno. Between 13 and 20 July 1920, Polish soldiers fought battles with the Bolshevik army for Dubno and Chorupań. Eventually, the Poles were forced to leave the area. Several hundred Polish soldiers were killed in the fighting. They were buried in several different places. Among others, soldiers of the 49th Infantry Regiment of the Polish Army were buried in a mass grave in the cemetery on Myrohoshchanskaya Street in Dubno.
Initially the grave was arranged in a makeshift manner. On 1.11.1933 a new metal cross was placed on it, which was consecrated by the chaplain of the 43rd pp. Bayonets Legion in the presence of the army and a large crowd. In 2001, the cross was renovated. At present, the grave is looked after by members of the Polish Cultural Society and parishioners of the St. John of Nepomuk Church.
