Graves of victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)

During World War II, soldiers of the 27th Volhynian Infantry Division of the Home Army and members of the Polish self-defence were buried at the cemetery in Zasmyki, as well as Poles murdered by soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in the surrounding villages, including Abramowiec, Batyń, Gruszówka, Janówka, Radomla and Radowicze.
After World War II, the cemetery was devastated, and later the abandoned necropolis was overgrown with vegetation, as a result of which some of the graves have not survived to the present day. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, new tombstones were placed on some of the graves of UPA victims. When the actual burial place could not be established, a symbolic gravestone was placed anywhere in the cemetery.
In September 1996, the remains of Poles murdered by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in 1943 in Lityń were deposited in the cemetery. The exhumation was carried out on 24-25 September 1996, at which time the remains of 24 people were excavated. A cross was placed on this mass grave in Zasmyki, which stood on the grave in Lityń, with the inscription: "Ś.P. Pacaki, Nachwaciuki, Wawry, Święcickie, perished 1943". In 2001, a new tombstone was placed on the grave.
In 1992, during the consecration ceremony of the renovated cemetery, one of the Poles, Mr Kondracki, to commemorate the 8 people murdered from his wife's family, brought a cross from Poland and placed it in the cemetery. In 2003, a cross was moved to Zasmyk from one of the graves in Wierzbicze.
The cemetery also contains other graves of victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, among others:
. - the grave of the inhabitants of the village of Abramowiec: cleaned up in 2002, a metal cross with an inscription plaque was placed on it;
- the grave of the inhabitants of the village of Radovichi: an earth grave surrounded by a concrete kerb (its size corresponds to 3-4 graves) with a metal cross and a plaque nailed to it in honour of the victims from Radovichi;
- a grave of the inhabitants of the village of Gruszówka (married couple Bartoszewski and Ludwika Daszkiewicz): a concrete grave without a cross, with a plaque bearing the names of the victims;
- individual graves in which the following people are buried (commemorated): Bednarek Mieczysław, Budzisz Stanisława, Bujalski Geniuś (Eugeniusz), Gąsiorowska Aniela, Gochna Konstanty, Grudziński Józef, Jaworski Kazimierz, Kaczan Antonina, Kołodziński Aleksander, Lubian Jan, Mazurek Leopold, Mazurek Zofia, Onisk Irena, Pasztelan Roman, Pożywio Aleksander, Pożywio Wacław, Sakowicz Władysław, Wójcik Krystyna (child), Zamościńska Anna, Zamościński Władysław.
