Graves of Poles murdered in World War II

According to the 1931 Central Statistical Office census, the town of Niemirów had 634 homesteads and 3016 inhabitants. Jews predominated, Ukrainians made up 30% and Poles 20%.

During the Second World War, Poles living here died at the hands of Ukrainians. The first attack took place in December 1943, when the Bandera attacked the Niemirów suburb where Poles lived. Most of the homesteads were looted and burnt down. Fifty people were murdered. Some of the surviving Poles took refuge in Niemirow-Zdrój, where a German military unit was stationed. The Ukrainians staged another attack in May 1944, murdering 10 inhabitants of Niemirów-Zdrój.

The Miśek family, who died tragically on 15 May 1944 (probably during an attack by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army), are buried in the Niemirów cemetery. It is a grave with a massive stone frame, at the top of which is planted a decorative metal cross with an inscription plaque: "Miśków (Wicijowska) Jadwiga b. 1906. Maria b. 1937 Janina b. 1942 died tragically on 15 May 1944 May they rest with God".
