Graves of Home Army soldiers

Two Home Army soldiers were buried in the Taboryszki cemetery, located a few hundred metres from the present Lithuanian-Belarusian border: Kazimierz Mickiewicz and Władysław Zienkiewicz. Both were killed on 23.02.1945 in Lavžie in Belarus, during a massacre carried out by NKVD troops on civilians and Home Army soldiers who had been lured into a trap of joint talks about fighting the enemy. The perfidy of the aggressor's action was revealed in the fact that during the talks with the representatives of the Home Army, preceding the massacre, Soviet soldiers presented themselves as members of a formation fighting against the NKVD troops.
The graves are next to each other and are made in the same way - metal crosses have metal inscription plates in the shape of a shield. The inscriptions proclaim: "Ś.P. / Kazimierz / Mickiewicz / soldier of a partisan unit of the Home Army / died in battle against the NKVD in Ławże 1921 / 23 II 1945 /" and Ś.P. / Władysław / Zienkiewicz / soldier of a partisan unit of the Home Army / died in battle against the NKVD in Ławże / 23 II 1945 /".
